John Lowry - Founder

John Lowry is a visionary who has worked 55-plus years in the motion picture and television industries.

His breakthroughs in imaging science have been used to solve image processing problems for decades, and earned him numerous awards and patents.

His primary focus for the past 35 years has been the design and development of analog and digital image processing systems to improve the quality of motion picture images.

His prior work includes system design in 1971 for the system at Image Transform that was used to clean up and enhance the live television pictures from the moon during the Apollo 16 and Apollo 17 missions.

At Digital Video Systems in 1974, Lowry was one of the pioneers in digital video, doing system design of digital time base correctors; frame store TBC/synchronizers; test-signal generators; line-translation scrambling; and satellite scrambling and encryption.

In 1988, he pioneered one of the very first multimedia CD-ROM projects and helped pave the way for millions of children to learn to read using his CD-ROM software.

He is also a Life Fellow of the Society of Motion Picture and Television Engineers.

Ian Cavén - Founder

Cavén is responsible for the design and implementation of image processing software, as well as color science research.

Cavén became fascinated with technology at an early age and began to study number theory and computers on his own before continuing his studies at the university level.

After earning a degree in electrical engineering at the University of Toronto, he worked for a computer manufacturer designing hardware and software for laptop computers.

He then joined Discis Knowledge Research, a company founded by visionary entrepreneur John Lowry.

Subsequently, Cavén earned a Master of Applied Science degree in Electrical and Computer Engineering from the University of British Columbia, with an emphasis in motion estimation, a key technology in video compression.

In 1998, Cavén and Lowry co-founded Lowry Digital, where Cavén's technical expertise dovetailed with Lowry's entrepreneurial spirit and aptitude for ideas.

Cavén wrote the code for all the original image processing tools used by Lowry Digital on hundreds of high-profile restorations and image repair projects during the company's first six years.
